Altar Servers

When you take part in the Liturgy by carrying out your altar service, you offer a witness to all. Your absorption, the devotion that wells up from your heart and is expressed in gestures, in song, in the responses: if you do it correctly and not absent-mindedly, then in a certain way your witness is one that moves people.”

— Pope Benedict XVI addressing altar servers on August 2, 2006

Our Altar Servers assist at our Eucharist celebrations.  Training sessions are held at the beginning of the academic year for all new and returning altar servers.  These sessions are open to all 4th-12th graders.  Altar Servers are commissioned each year by the parish in a ceremony at Mass.

Assisting the community at Mass is an honor and a privilege.  All boys and girls are encouraged to learn to serve at the altar.  Students who have received the Sacrament of Eucharist and who are at least 9 years old  are qualified to train for this vital and important ministry. Being an altar server is a commitment that is made by a young person and their family.  Since this ministry is vital to our worship as a community, altar servers are required to serve when they are scheduled, as every effort is made to accommodate Mass preferences and availability.  Awards are given by the parish to altar servers each year for perfect attendance and outstanding service.

If you or a member of your family are are interested in becoming an Altar Server, please contact Rachel Powell through the church office at 386-255-0433, or by email at rpowell@lourdesacademy.net
